May 26, 2002 Flag Placement Post 245 again honored those who have passed before us with the
placement of American Flags on Veteran gravesites in Kingston Community Cemetery, Suquamish Cemetery and Breidablik Chapel. Thanks to John Portanova

May 27, 2002 Memorial Day - Waterfront Park Ceremonies included: color guards from all branches of the service, North Kitsap High School Band provided music, a patriotic speaker, gun salute, taps and the placing of
a memorial wreath on Liberty Bay by The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Big Stick AwardBig Stick-- District III Commander Roth Hafer holding the "BIG STICK"
award for membership from Department of Washington during convention. Pose
is in front of the WWI memorial in Olympia while we waited to march in the
annual dress parade of the American Legion. District III was the highest
percentage of new and renewed members for the 2002 membership year. Post
245 commander Fred Reitmeyer was the 2003 membership chairman and District
III Vice Commander.

August 2, 2002 First Adopt-a-Highway program Members of Post 245 completed our first cleanup of our assigned roadway (the combined 1.75 miles for the interchange of Highway 3 & 305) that resulted in the collection of 20 bags of refuse.
A special "Thank You" to Bob Ashbrook, Ray Long, Birger Sather and Mike Haynes for assisting me with this excellent community service effort.
