May 28, 2001- Memorial Day Celebration. An e-mail posting from our Commander says it all!
The Ceremony and Celebration of Memorial Day in Poulsbo today was one for the books. Our speaker did a wonderful oration on the veterans who were willing to leave their homes and fight for our freedom. He also mentioned the families of those brave men and women who stayed behind and kept the home fires burning.
After the speaker and during the preparation of wreath for the laying on the water we were entertained by the Stars and Stripes. The Stars and Stripes are a group youngsters talented in reciting patriotic verse and singing patriotic songs.
The Poulsbo High School Band was also present and played musical interludes for opening and the wreath ceremony.
A twenty-one gun salute lead by our new Sergeant at Arms and manned by a team of shooters from our VFW and American Legion posts was followed by taps.
Color Guards were provided by the Marines, Air Force, Army and Navy detachments in the area and a Poulsbo Scout troop did the honors of changing the flag from half staff to full staff at noon.
If you missed it you certainly should plan to attend next year. If you were there Thank You.
Our Ladies Auxiliary did our post proud with the presentation of the wreath and flowers plus the luncheon after the event for everyone involved in the celebration of Memorial Day at Poulsbo.
