We had a chance to visit the Sidney Art Gallery and had no idea what a treat we were going to experience. The gallery is located at 202 Sidney Avenue in Port Orchard Wa. Quoting from their website “Located a block up the hill from downtown Port Orchard and the marina, the Sidney Gallery is a terrific place to find artistic treasures by renowned and emerging artists.” It was such a thoroughly enjoyable visit, partially because of the hostess who gave us information about each piece of art and each artist. Then to our delight she gave us permission to tour the Sidney Museum upstairs and also sent us to view the Log Cabin Museum literally just down the street.
The Gallery is housed in the 1908 Masonic Hall Building which was added to the Washington Heritage Register of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
At this time it is the only building in Port Orchard to have that distinction.
I determined there must be approximately 25 or more artists displaying their work with alternating displays showcasing other artists. This is an active gallery with featured artist show, student show, quilts, and even a kids art corner charmingly located in at old safe. Not only is the art work enjoyable but one cannot help but admire the wonderful wooden floor and numerous antique pieces used for display.
One of my favorite and most colorful of the dated pieces that are being given life by daily use is the decoratively painted old cash register.
The hours for the gallery are Tues. – Sat. 10 am – 4 pm and Sunday 1pm – 4 pm
